Clothes that Feel Like Home

Emulating the feeling of longing perhaps is not the best function of clothes, apart from being the loyal companion of various memorable events in our life. A fashion brand from Istanbul, Uttu, derives romanticism out of classic design and produces solid pieces that depicts home.

Named after goddess of weaving and clothing in Sumerian mythology, Uttu can be said as a brainchild of Gokce Cibik, the designer, who has undergone education in architecture and fashion design. Highlighting sweetness while still holding tight to the Istanbul roots, Uttu appears to be separated from the highly industrialized fashion industry and bundles a classic yet unique design with unexpected details. Nuance of easy, simple life is characterized by the use of subtle colours, precise cutting, and rather loose silhouette.

Uttu’s lookbook is shot beautifully, taking place around the corners of Istanbul, ┬ábringing a sense of warmth and vintage feeling. Bell shaped sleeves, scalloped edges, and peterpan collars are amongst the tiny details, and without any grand gestures, the story is narrated. Loud and clear, through aesthetic use of photography and styling.

Uttu appears to be separated from the highly industrialized fashion industry and bundles a classic yet unique design with unexpected details.

Animately, Cibik portrays exactly the vein of Uttu, whose production also takes place in Istanbul. Aside from being essentials to being root of a fully functioning wardrobe, Uttu clothes are also the essentials that can remind someone of where s/he comes from. Even better, somewhere s/he longs to migrate. For once, the pleasure lies not only in acquiring a well designed piece, but also cultured root that is carried by it. Whether we are hit by nostalgic feeling or stormed by urgency to leave, Uttu is definitely an inspiration trigger for days of being home.
